Dewdrop Dance | 1.5 - 3 Years

Toddlers and their grown-ups delight in Dewdrop Dance, a 45-minute weekly dance class. In this story-based class, you will grow a magical garden, be entertained at the circus, blast off into outer space, dance like animals at the zoo, and gleefully romp in the park together.

Enchanting props nurture young imaginations and help youngsters learn to share. Students will practice taking turns and socializing with other kiddos and grown-ups every week. Each class includes handouts to extend the fun and learning at home.

Grown-ups will be amazed at how useful each lesson is to their child's development and love every second of class as they share many smiles and giggles with their little one.

Dewdrop Dance is presented in easy 10-week sessions that provide a gentle introduction to dance for children ages 18 months - 3 years and a grown-up. You'll never encounter the exact same class twice, even when you participate in multiple 10-week sessions; there is endless variety built into the program. Earn a new badge with every 10-week session; your child can earn up to 6 badges before graduating to the Sparkle Program!

Your child's adorable uniform* is included in the cost of your initial 10-week session. And don't worry; we won't put you on stage - this is a non-performing class :).

Dewdrop Dancers graduate into the Sparkle Program the year they will be three years old by October 1.

*Uniform: Girls wear a leotard and tights. Boys wear a t-shirt and shorts. Ballet shoes for children are recommended but are not included. Adults wear easy to move in, comfortable, modest clothing with socks.

Sparkle 3 Ballet

Sparkle 3 Ballet is a pre-ballet class specifically designed for children who are three years old on October 1 of the school year in which class begins. Sparkle 3 Ballet is the youngest level of the four year Sparkle Program.

Each class intentionally nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of a typical three-year-old. Pre-ballet skills are introduced in a creative and loving environment with careful attention to the student's physical readiness. Little dancers are never pushed beyond safe physical limits.

Students are introduced to body movement, spatial awareness, and pretend play through creative movement and basic pre-ballet coordination skills using the Leap 'N Learn curriculum. Instructors are trained and certified by Leap 'N Learn to teach with this proven approach to early-childhood dance training.

Classes also focus on social skills necessary for any learning environment including listening to and following instructions, taking turns & respecting others in a positive atmosphere.

Sparkle 3 Ballet students grow emotionally through their experience in class. For many, this is their first independent activity apart from a parent. Gentle teachers are quite effective at helping a shy child choose to walk into the classroom confidently over time.

Little dancers start to learn basic French terminology for their ballet skills. We always pair the new French word with a familiar English word to help create an association. An example is Flamingo Passé. Our mascot is Reggie the Flamingo, so dancers become familiar with flamingos very quickly if they didn't already know about them. Flamingos stand on one leg, and so do ballet dancers when we passé!

Play is a child's job; it's how they learn! That's why imagination abounds in every class...from princess plies to fairy piqués to kangaroo jumps, there's a storyline for every activity! And if you have a boy who wants to dance, no worries. We also have prince plies, rocket sautés, and tightrope walks! We know how to flex to keep everyone involved.

Colorful props such as scarves and rhythm instruments keep dancers' attention. Just as importantly, props help to ingrain movement concepts that dancers will use for the rest of their dancing days. For example, scarves might be used to demonstrate big, slow butterfly wings or little, fast hummingbird wings.

Class extension activities are provided weekly, giving parents the opportunity to facilitate their child's understanding and retention of class content. Coloring sheets are stashed away in each dancer's very own binder, and always reflect a specific activity presented in that week's lesson and are a perfect conversation starter for reinforcing learning.

Sparkle 4 Ballet

Sparkle 4 Ballet is a pre-ballet class specifically designed for children who are four years old on October 1 of the school year in which class begins. Sparkle 4 Ballet is the second level in the four-year Sparkle Program.

Each class intentionally nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of a typical four-year-old. Skills that were introduced in Sparkle 3 Ballet are performed with greater dexterity and built upon in Sparkle 4 Ballet.

Students are introduced to body movement, spatial awareness, and pretend play through creative movement and basic pre-ballet coordination skills using the Leap 'N Learn curriculum. The sweetest instructors you'll ever meet are trained and certified by Leap 'N Learn to teach with this proven approach to early-childhood dance training.

Instructors focus on helping students develop social skills necessary for any learning environment including listening to and following instructions, taking turns & respecting others in a loving atmosphere.

Emotional awareness is developed through specific activities designed to help children identify and express various emotions in a safe, stress-free environment. According to Dr. Annie Spell, Ph.D. and co-author of the Leap 'N Learn curriculum, this is an essential skill for healthy emotional development; understanding what emotions are, that everyone has them and that it's ok to express them helps children strengthen their emotional intelligence.

Little dancers continue to learn basic French terminology for their ballet skills. We continue to pair French words with familiar English words to foster understanding and aid in memorization. An example is "Princess Plie." We always get dressed in our princess crown, diamond necklace, and princess shoes before we plie. We're very careful to keep our crown on our head, our necklace shining in the sun, and our shoes sparkling as we bend our knees. In addition, students learn to recognize and call out familiar patterns used in class often, learn to find their spot independently, and can count and clap or tap simple rhythms.

Props such as beanie babies and placement mats help to engage students while developing an ability to integrate key movement concepts into their performance. For example, dancers may rock a beanie baby side to side or forward and backward as they practice shifting their weight. Colorful shape mats help students identify their place,  provide reminders of how to move, and much more.

In the spring, very basic Primary Ballet skills are introduced to help transition students to Sparkle 5 Ballet in the following season.

Sparkle 5 Ballet

Sparkle 5 Ballet is a primary ballet class designed for children who are 5 on October 1 of the current school year in which class begins. Sparkle 5 Ballet is the third level of the four-year Sparkle Program.

Each class intentionally nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of a typical five-year-old. Primary Ballet skills are introduced that are based on developmental readiness; young dancers are never pushed beyond safe physical limits.

As compared to a pre-ballet class, primary dancers' increased muscle strength and control, along with greater cognitive capabilities, mean that these dancers work turned out a majority of the time, start to learn more complex arm positions and movements, and enjoy learning more intricate group movement patterns. Primary Ballet skills help improve balance, agility, and gross motor development.

Dancer Manners are an important part of Sparkle 5 Ballet. Dancers become Star Students when they show respect for the teacher, their friends, and the dance space. Etiquette is a universal ballet concept that has lovely implications when applied in all areas of a dancer's life.

Students continue to increase their knowledge and understanding of  French terminology. At the primary level, we start to drop the English association word with each French term as students are more able to recall the correct terms without the association as they get older.

Musical awareness continues to advance in the primary ballet levels as students get better at knowing how to start on the count of "1", can count and clap more complex rhythms, and demonstrate a greater understanding of executing steps in time with the music.

Because five's easily relate to the world of pretend play, skills are often introduced through imaginative storylines. This is perfect because many ballet performances are actually stories told through dance and pantomime. The pretend-play aspect of Sparkle 5 Ballet both engage students and introduces them to ballet culture.

Emotions also play an important role in the world of dance, and so they are discussed and expressed frequently. The ability to identify and express emotions is a vital part of healthy early development.

The use of props such as ribbon rings and scarves foster creativity and artistry. Props also provide a deeper understanding and incorporation of movement concepts presented in class, such as sharp and smooth.

Class extension activities are provided weekly, giving parents the opportunity to facilitate their child's understanding and retention of class content.

At the conclusion of the year, Sparkle 5 Ballet students will move into the highest level of the Sparkle Program: Sparkle 6 Ballet. Here they will continue to hone primary ballet skills with greater precision and be introduced to preparatory ballet skills.

Sparkle 6 Ballet

Sparkle 6 Ballet is for children who are 6 on October 1 of the school year in which the class begins. Sparkle 6 Ballet is the final level of the four-year Sparkle Program for early-childhood students.

Each class intentionally nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of a typical six-year-old. Primary Ballet skills introduced in Sparkle 5 Ballet are performed with greater proficiency and in Sparkle 6 Ballet.

This class is the beginning of the transition program into the study of classical ballet. Primary dancers' increased muscle strength and control, along with greater cognitive capabilities mean that these dancers work turned out a majority of the time, start to learn more complex arm positions and movements, and enjoy learning more intricate group movement patterns. Primary Ballet skills help improve balance, agility, and gross motor development.

Dancer Manners are an important part of Sparkle 6 Ballet. Dancers become Star Students when they show respect for the teacher, their friends, and the dance space. Etiquette is a universal ballet concept that has lovely implications when applied in all areas of a dancer's life.

Cognitively, students continue to increase their knowledge and understanding of French terminology, develop musical awareness, and pattern recognition and formation skills.

Emotions also play an important role in the world of dance. They are discussed and expressed frequently in class. The ability to identify and express emotions is a vital part of healthy early development.

Because play is how children learn, imaginative stories continue to be woven into exercises throughout the class, but with less volume than in younger classes. Many ballet performances are actually stories told through dance and pantomime, so the pretend-play aspect of Sparkle 6 Ballet engages students while introducing them to ballet culture.

Sparkle 6 Ballet is the highest level in the Sparkle Program. In May, Sparkle 6 students graduate from the Sparkle Program! In June they will enter Ripple 1 Ballet.

Sparkle Tap | 5-6 Year Olds

Sparkle Tap is a toe-tappin' blast for kiddos who love to make noise! This primary tap class is for children who are five or six years old on October 1 in the school year in which the class begins.

Each class intentionally nurtures the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development of typical five and six-year-olds.

Physically, tap improves balance, agility, and gross motor development.  Students learn primary tap technique including a wide variety of compound steps that they will continue to build on in later years.

Socially, Dancer Manners are an important part of Sparkle Tap. Dancers become Star Students when they show respect to others by taking turns, keeping quiet when necessary (including tap shoes!),  and listening to and following directions.

Musical awareness is an essential tap concept. Tap is all about creating rhythms with our feet! Students learn to start dancing on the count of "1," how to count, clap and tap basic rhythms, and begin to demonstrate an understanding and ability to execute steps in time with the music.

Improvisation is a fundamental tap skill that Sparkle Tap students begin to explore. Because five's and six's easily relate to the world of pretend play, improv games based on imaginative storylines help students let loose and get creative with their tapping.

"Tapping" into emotions as a vehicle for improv games enhances children's ability to identify and express emotions. This is a vital part of developing emotional intelligence.

The use of engaging props fosters creativity and artistry. Props also provide a deeper understanding and incorporation of movement concepts presented in class, such as stillness and action.

Class extension activities are provided weekly, giving parents the opportunity to facilitate their child's understanding and retention of class content.

After completing Sparkle Tap as a six-year-old, students graduate from the Sparkle Program into the Ripple Program, where they will be ready for the more physical and cognitive challenges of Ripple 1 Tap.

Physically, Hip Hop improves balance, agility, and gross motor development. Students learn a variety of hip hop moves based on everyday actions that they can relate to.

Socially, Dancer Manners are an important part of Sparkle Hip Hop. Dancers become Star Students when they show respect to others by expressing encouragement, keeping quiet when necessary, and listening to and following directions.

Hip hop has a heavy emphasis on personal style development. This is an emotionally safe place to explore self-expression without fear of ridicule. Students encourage one another in their quest for their own style.

Hip hop classes are always squeaky clean and promote team-work, respect, and putting forth your best effort.

Sparkle Musical Theatre is an action-packed dancing, singing, and acting class for children who are 5 or 6 on October 1 of the school year in which class begins.

Emotionally, Musical Theatre students really thrive. When children have the opportunity to express various emotions through acting games, it is a safe and effective way for them to recognize and explore emotions in a non-threatening setting. This sets them up for improved emotional awareness and processing skills.

Socially, students learn to use their Dancer Manners. Dance etiquette benefits everyone and improves the learning potential for every class. Dancers become Star Students when they show respect to others by expressing encouragement, keeping quiet when necessary, keeping hands to themselves, and listening to and following directions.

Students are divided by age and lesson plans are geared toward the developmental ability of your child's age group. Little Dancers Series classes take place during Christmas Break, Spring Break, and Summer.

Students can wear any comfortable, modest, easy-to-move-in clothing to Little Dancers Series classes. Any dance shoes or bare feet/socks are acceptable. Please secure hair and remove jewelry before class for your child’s comfort.

Catch-Up Lessons For Older Beginners

Older beginners may opt to take private or semi-private catch-up lessons in order to enroll in a Beg/Int or Int level class. This allows students ages 9 and older to start out with students more their age while ensuring that they have a foundational understanding of the style and one-on-one coaching in the basics to get them up to speed with their classmates. Older beginners are also welcome to enroll in a Beginning-level class with no catch-up lessons required.

Catch up lessons are 30 minutes and occur during the first 6 weeks of enrollment in conjunction with the weekly group class. Lessons may be held privately, or if there are other interested students, may be shared between up to three people. The cost is dependent on the number of students enrolled in the catch-up lessons.

Catch up lessons will be scheduled on a case by case basis through the office after the student has enrolled in a weekly class. Please contact us to inquire about catch-up lessons for older beginners.
