THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS | Final Creativity Challenge

Ripple students are working on a final Creativity Challenge for the season. Over the next five weeks, they will create a short dance based on a scaffold provided by the teacher that incorporates these key elements:

  • Their Ripple level’s performance goal
  • A specific movement concept
  • Three of the Gold Standards for their current Ripple Level

This type of collaborative project benefits students in a variety of ways.

1. Raises Awareness | The required elements raise student’s awareness of what is important to focus on as an individual.

2. Strengthens Teamwork Skills | Engaging in a creative collaboration with peers has the potential to increase a student’s ability to:

  • explain their ideas to others
  • listen to alternative ideas and perspectives
  • reach consensus
  • delegate responsibilities
  • coordinate efforts
  • resolve conflicts
  • integrate the contributions of multiple team members

3. Deep Level Processing = Retention | Compared to simply following along in class, the students’ processing level is much deeper when they must decide as a group how to present the required elements. This leads to greater retention of the class content.
