Pure Dance Works
Philosophy

Classes at Pure Dance Works are designed to be child-friendly. First and foremost, creative ballet is FUN; but it is not just fun and games. Lessons in technique, dance concepts, and the chance to express oneself with what has been taught through improvisation and group choreography are a vital part of any dancer's education. What students learn in creative ballet will serve them well as they grow and develop their skills in creative dance, modern, ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop and other dance genres.

At Pure Dance Works, a combination of proper dance technique, essential dance concepts, creativity & FUN are the focus of each class.

  • Technique involves learning how to mold one's body to produce codified dance poses and steps, such as first position, tendu, plie, or specific turns and jumps.

  • Instruction in the Five Essential Dance Concepts of Space, Time, Force, Body, Movement & Form includes practicing related dance elements. For example, the concept of Space includes the element of Pathways. Pathways can be Straight, Zigzag or Curvy. An awareness of these concepts and the ability to incorporate the related elements into dances produces a three-dimensional dancer who really understands all of the ways his or her body can be used to dance.

  • Creativity is a vital and exciting part of a child's dance education. This is where dancers take the technique and concepts that they have learned and use these abilities to express themselves through improvisation or choreography. Time will be given in each class for personal improvisation and/or group choreography. When children are allowed to decide how to use what they have learned, dance becomes personal and their retention increases.
  • FUN! Classes are designed to engage children by changing activities frequently to eliminate boredom.
At least two props (scarves, instruments, etc.) are used in each class to help maintain interest and promote active participation.
Personal creativity is encouraged; children enjoy expressing themselves through what they have learned.

Everything done at Pure Dance Works focuses on teaching kids how to dance in a fun, kid-friendly atmosphere. But more than that, the lessons learned at dance are intended to translate into important life lessons outside the studio. The goal is to teach children how to live a life that shines brightly, which involves having a good attitude, getting along with others & doing your best.

"Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe."
